Going to the Hiroshi Sugimoto Lounge we were treated to a choice of tea and served a red bean mochi. I choose the matcha and was served in the most beautiful bowl, probably my favourite piece of pottery the whole trip. It was likely made using a local clay body from the area, and as such contained bits of feldspar and mica which resulted in its beautiful textural surface. The shape slightly imperfect and wabi-sabi gave it movement, flow and character.
