Climbing up the hill and looking at Washi no Sato and the town whilst the sunset happened was beautiful. We were all so lucky to have Mr Ono looking after us and his pleasant demeanour and work ethic was extremely commendable. The traditional style tatami floors elicited this sense of earthiness and calm which for me stems from being a natural product. For me wood tones give me the same calmness which grounds me. In my own ceramic work, I search for rich and earthy tones which tell a story through the glaze or clay surface.
